eSkills 4Girls Deadline for Application

Location: Impact Hub Accra

In recent times, whereas digitalisation has revolutionised and created new opportunities for social mobility and economic empowerment, it is also increasingly leading to digital gaps. In 2015, only 18.4 percent of the female population in Africa had online access. In the Americas, this share was 66.2 percent. Women are also higly underrepresented in digital professions, and there are not enough visible role models for girls and young women who are interested in these professions. Education and training are key to empowering more women in the digital age.
eSkills4Girls aims tackle the digital gender divide by increasing the participation of women and girls in the technology / digital economy. We will do this through social enterprises promoting women in tech, with proven and scalable potential.
Teams will be selected from Accra, Manila, Odessa, and Sao Paolo to present at the Women20 Summit in Berlin this April 2017. Winning teams will also receive a package of support from GIZ and Impact Hub to further scale their ideas.
Who are we looking for?
We are scouting for startups, social enterprises, NGOs who support the inclusion of women in the technology/digital sector. The project selection criteria includes scaling potential, impact model, proof of concept, and impact on female empowerment.
Deadline of submissions are on March 22, 2017.
